## What does Tretinoin do?

Tretinoin speeds up how quickly skin cells turn over, which clears blocked pores and, over months, improves texture and tone. It is the most studied ingredient in dermatology and also the most likely to irritate — which is why niacinamide is compounded alongside it and why you build up frequency slowly.

## What to expect

- Start slowly — Two or three nights a week, building up over a couple of months.
- Purging is common — The first four to six weeks often look worse before better.
- Daily SPF is required — Not optional with a retinoid.
- Months, not weeks — Texture and tone improve gradually.

## How to take it

Apply a pea-sized amount to a clean, dry face at night, starting two to three nights a week and building up as tolerated

## Side effects and safety

Tretinoin is FDA approved for acne. This preparation is compounded with niacinamide, so the combination has not been reviewed by the FDA.

Tell your care team straight away if your skin blisters or crusts, you get severe swelling, burning or stinging you cannot tolerate, you get sunburned while using it, or peeling keeps getting worse.

Common side effects

- redness
- peeling
- dryness
- burning
- stinging
- itching
- irritated skin

Rare but serious

- irritation severe enough to stop treatment
- increased sunburn risk
- worsening of eczema-prone skin
- a temporary flare of acne in the first weeks

Do not take this if you are pregnant, or your skin is sunburned or has active eczema.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Message your care team about any symptom that worries you. What we dispense is a compounded preparation made by a licensed US pharmacy. Compounded medications are not approved by the FDA for safety, efficacy or quality.

## Your questions, answered.

Why start only two or three nights a week?

Tretinoin irritates most in the first weeks. Building up frequency slowly is the difference between staying on it and giving up. Most people reach nightly use over a couple of months.

Will my skin get worse before it gets better?

Often, yes. Purging and flaking in the first four to six weeks is common and usually settles. Persistent raw or painful skin means backing off the frequency.

Do I need sunscreen?

Yes, daily. Tretinoin increases sun sensitivity, and sun exposure undoes the improvement you are working toward.

Can I use it if I am pregnant or trying?

No. Retinoids are contraindicated in pregnancy and while trying to conceive.
